Akshardham Temple, Delhi

The Akshardham Templs, also known as the Delhi Akshardham or the Swaminarayan Akshardham, is one of the finest examples of Hindu art, culture and spirituality. The construction of this monument was inspired by Pramukh Swami Maharaj who is the spiritual head of the Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha. The inception of the temple took place in 2005 and ever since, over 70 percent of Delhi’s tourists make their way to the structure.

The construction of the temple involved over 7000 artisans and the outcome is a fine example of their efforts. The temple, which is situated close to the banks of river Yamuna is built according to the rules of the Vastu Shastra and the Pancharatra Shastra. The complex consists of the main temple along with many smaller structures that exhibit scenes from the life of Swami Narayana. The murals and the engravings on the walls also consist of excerpts from the Upanishads and Indian History.

The temple has an IMAX feature about the life of yogi Swami Narayana. The musical fountain, Nilkanth is another famous feature of the Akshardham Temple. The beautifully landscaped gardens and the entire complex itself creates a great ambience of devotion and peace. You’ll find it tough to drag yourself away from the stunningly crafted walls of the temple.
